3P Process: Opiate Addiction Treatment Process

The Recovery Process Starts Here

Opioid addiction affects nearly every aspect of your life, from your physical and psychological health to your relationships, decision-making, and professional life. Milestones Wellness Centers uses the 3P Process ™ to address each of these aspects with their individual addiction treatment plan for opioid addiction.

The three Ps of our Process are:

  1. Physical Health
  2. Psychological Health
  3. Progressional Health

Understanding the 3P Process™

1. Physical Health

Milestones Wellness Centers offers a variety of treatment options to address the physical aspects of opioid addiction. These options include oral medications that help reduce dependence on opioids. Oral medications may include:

Injectable medications may also be part of the treatment plan. Injections may include:

Oral and injectable medications help control physical dependence on opioids so that you can move to the next phase of treatment, known as induction. During this phase, addiction specialists assess your physical health as it relates to opioid addiction. Induction often includes point of care (POC) drug testing and lab work and other health assessments, such as blood pressure, pulse oximeter to determine how well your lungs are working, pregnancy tests, body mass index (BMI), and more. This phase may also include gaining authorization for payment coverage, education on the use of medications that help control physical dependence, and more.

2. Psychological Health

Opioid addiction affects your psychological health in a number of complex ways. Experiencing certain events, such as an argument or other stressful interaction, can trigger drug use. Addiction can also cause cravings, anxiety, and other psychological effects. What’s more, opioid addiction and certain psychiatric disorders, such as depression and anxiety, can co-exist in what therapists refer to as a dual diagnosis. The psychological aspects of opioid addiction can affect the individual as well as their family.

The 3P treatment provided by Milestones Wellness Centers addresses the psychological aspects of opioid addiction. Psychological treatment includes in-office counseling and therapy, individual and group therapy, and even counseling for families dealing with addiction. Some counseling sessions may even be done online.

Education also plays an important role in treating the psychological effects of opioid addiction. This education can cover the physical and psychological effects of opioid use, as well as providing information on how your community plays a role in your recovery and life after addiction.

As always, a good assessment is essential for developing an individual addiction treatment plan that addresses the psychological aspects of opioid addiction. To ensure the best assessment possible, Milestones Wellness Centers may administer the assessment or refer you to a qualified partner.

3. Progressional Health

Progressional health treatment helps give you the tools you need to live an opioid-free life after you complete physical and psychological treatment. You may learn stress management techniques that help you deal with difficult situations without resorting to opioids, ways to resolve conflicts, and effective communication skills that allow you to listen to others and express yourself in healthy ways. Progressional treatment helps you build healthy relationships, and improve your overall health and wellness.

This approach to treatment also helps you avoid relapses by identifying triggers, environments and behaviors that lead to drug use. You can even sharpen your decision-making skills so that you don’t make the same choices that led you to use opioids in the first place.

Progressional treatment involves setting goals that lead towards a life without opioids. These goals may include going to school, reconciling with family, or getting a job. This phase of treatment promotes personal and professional development through one-on-one assistance, onsite groups, and other settings. Milestones Wellness offers a resource center where patients can get help with community, educational, and career services.

FAQ About the 3P Process

How Do Oral Medications (e.g., Suboxone, Subsolv) Treat Opiate Addiction?

The oral medications that patients receive during opioid addiction treatment at Milestones Wellness Centers help relieve the physical discomfort that individuals experience once they stop taking opioids.

The Induction Phase

During the induction phase of opioid addiction treatment, experienced addiction specialists evaluate the patient’s physical health, in relation to his or her opioid addiction. Some of the medical care that patients can expect to receive during this phase of treatment include health assessments, point-of-care (POC) drug testing and a variety of lab tests, including pregnancy tests for female patients.

How Can I Prevent Relapse in My Addiction?

At Milestones Wellness Centers, once patients complete their physical and psychological treatment program, they begin a progressional health treatment program. This program gives patients the tools they need to live an opiate-free life, to build strong and healthy relationships, and to improve their overall wellness.

During the progressional health phase of treatment, patients learn how to:

  • Resolve conflict
  • Communicate effectively
  • Listen to others
  • Express themselves in a healthy way

In addition, this progressional phase helps avoid relapse by assisting the patient with identifying the surroundings, behaviors and triggers that typically result in his or her use of opioids.

Ultimately, the goal of the progressional phase of addiction treatment is to aid the patient in setting goals that reflect a life without opioid use.
